Ah , the dreaded Pap Smear , mammogram or Prostate Test !
It appear to me people I know fall into different catergories when it comes to these tests.
There are the ones that are diligent and visit the doctor regularly , the ones who go when they read or hear of someone who has been diagoned with the disease , the ones who never go as it "will not happen to me" or the ones who had a test years ago so that will cover me !
The latter was the mindeset of a relative of mine , he had had a PET full body scan for a different matter and it was all clear so his wife told him he was clear for life of all kinds of cancer As far asnI know a scan of this nature is only as good as the moment it is done. Beside the fact that most of us can not afford to have this very expensive test done regularly the next best option is to have regular tests with a GP.
A gentleman very close to me when his time to be examined comes around says "you don't know how unpleasant it is or how invasive it is! Oh how I wish he could have a Pap Smear or have his boobs squashed in a machine with incredible strength!
There are no guarantees with anything in life but if a five minute test did happen to show anything abnormal doesn't it seem a sensible thing to do.
So true - and I think most of the time they are more scared of the outcome then the actual process ! Crazy - early detection is key.
